Architect Mark Hughes developed an appreciation for design at a young age. It was “the exposure to great architecture growing up in the Washington, DC, metro area and while visiting Great Britain with my family,” he says, that first sparked his interest in the field. Extensive travel over the years in the U.S. and abroad, where he could “see, touch, record and feel great world architecture,” still informs Hughes’s work today.
Today, Hughes and his colleagues in Harrison Design’s DC office, Gregory Palmer and Bulent Baydar, take a team approach to their projects. They share a singular belief that a well-designed building is a work of art, an enduring investment and a place to express the client’s individuality. The award-winning firm designs luxury homes, townhomes and select commercial projects through the thoughtful application of traditional hierarchies, proportions, materials and detailing. “We are dedicated to creating luxury custom residences that are inspired by the best of classical and modern architecture,” says Hughes.
Founded in 1991, Harrison Design also has offices in Atlanta and St. Simons Island, Georgia; Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, California; New York; and Shanghai.
