With care and creativity, Jones & Boer Architects designs traditional homes that complement their owners’ loves and tastes, and fit throughout the Washington area and beyond. A home should “occupy the land and neighborhood comfortably, as if it had been there forever,” says founding principal David Jones. He and partner Wouter Boer make such houses possible today.

Jones, who earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Princeton and studied at Cambridge, gained early experience with Hartman-Cox Architects in DC before striking out on his own. Originally from New Zealand, Boer joined the practice in 2003 with a degree from Notre Dame and teaching experience at University of Maryland. The two work with a staff of architects to guide each project—and homeowner—through the processes of early decision-making, preliminary and final design, construction drawings, builder selection and contract administration.

For the last three decades, the firm has enjoyed a national reputation, winning numerous awards including, most recently, the 2015 AIA/Washingtonian Residential Design Award for Shingled Cottage in Cape Cod and the John Russell Pope Award for Queen Anne Revival in Chevy Chase.
