Hugh Newell Jacobsen, FAIA | Simon Townsend Jacobsen

Jacobsen Architecture was founded by father-and-son team Hugh Newell Jacobsen and Simon Townsend Jacobsen in 2007. The firm works in Europe, Asia, the Cayman Islands and the Dominican Republic, as well as in the U.S. Its focus is as simple as its buildings: to create a disciplined modern aesthetic with the refinement of traditional building forms.

“Eloquence in the language of architecture is measured by how a building is put together,” says Simon. “Architecture is order, which carries throughout the building down to the smallest corner.”

In a building by Jacobsen Architecture, the importance of detail cannot be over-estimated. “Our detailing is deliberately sparse and linear in order to enhance the spaces within and without,” Simon explains. “The client’s program, budget and site are what drive the design, but site is the dominant factor. We endeavor to design buildings that belong, make the site look better and, hopefully, never shout.”

In 2015, Jacobsen Architecture received four AIA awards. The firm won a Best of Houzz award and was named one of Architectural Digest’s Top 100 architects and designers.
